After fishing today, we took the boys to the zoo that is located in the same park as the fishing pond, where they became official "Peacock Pals" (hence agreeing NOT to chase the Peacocks, which roamed freely throughout the zoo). They did their part, there was no Peacock chasing.
Other than the Andean Condor, which was Zoo Boy's favorite thing (he's now upgraded his most-wanted pet from Turkey Vulture to Condor), the boys' favorite place in the zoo seemed to be the "Bug House". They had to know the names of all the different insects, and J spent quite some time trying to locate the queen in the bee hive they had on display.
Meanwhile, Zoo Boy had his eye on this tarantula. He waited extremely patiently for a turn to hold him. Just look at that smile! I was surprised (and a little relieved) when he later told me that he really liked the tarantula, but what he really wanted was a Condor. I'm thinking maybe a parakeet....
J got in on the tarantula-holding act too. Then I did. And so did The Map Man. Amazingly (ha!), neither of us has ever held a tarantula before. We were both amazed at how lightly it walked across our hands. And how un-creeped-out we were at it. Maybe if Zoo Boy insists on a tarantula as a pet at some point, we could consider it. Um, well, maybe.
We've always suspected that Zoo Boy is going to be the next Crocodile Hunter. Here is further proof....
