fall festival

Monday was a holiday, so no Monday Homeschool Classes. Instead we met up with friends at the Buell's Orchard Fall Festival, in Eastford, CT. J picked out a pumpkin in their pumpkin patch, as per tradition, but Zoo Boy decided to wait until we visit another pumpkin patch for his (he thought these all were too big). J's pumpkin is green on one side -- he said it's the pumpkin's camouflage side.

We had a gorgeous day to spend on the farm!

The boys and D on the hay ride back from the pumpkin patch.

Watching the farm's Cider Press in action.

J and D take a break from apple picking to enjoy some of their harvest!

J and an old apple tree.

The caramel apple making machine in operation. Zoo Boy in particular was fascinated by the entire process. I was amazed at the waste, even with a small operation like this. I'm sure I'd be absolutely horrified with a bigger operation's amount of throw-aways!

The Boy insisted on buying The Map Man (who had to work and couldn't come with us) one of the caramel apples. He told him all about how they were made.
