Forest Park Zoo

Another GORGEOUS spring day, so we ditched our plans (deciding to call THIS our spring vacation week!) and headed up to the Forest Park Zoo in Springfield, MA, so we could hang out with the animals, like this wallaby, in the sunshine.

Zoo Boy (in his natural habitat) feeding a Bactrian Camel, which J rightly pointed out has two humps, while his Dromedary cousin only has one hump. (They had both kinds in the same paddock so observing the similarities and differences was easy.) We discovered that camels have very LARGE very LOOSE lips and like to slobber all over us. Both disgusting and cute all at the same time. We laughed a LOT!

Lemur observation. You can almost hear the voice over "the zoologists stalk their prey from a safe distance, wishing not to disturb the natural behavior of their target. The lemurs, oblivious to their audience, go about their daily ritual of grooming and foraging for breakfast...."

Zoo Boy doles some goat food out to a willing taker. He was pretty popular with the goats in general. Probably had something to do with that bag full of animal food he was swinging around.

The biggest hit of the day was playing withe the Fenec Foxes. The smallest canine in the world, they're also apparently one of the most playful -- I'm not sure who had more fun, the kids or the kits!

It looks like you all have been having a great time! No one can say that, because you home school, you don't get out much!
