Yup, yesterday was Dodge Ball day at our homeschool gym class. Here the kids gather around the coaches and review the rules. Rules like if you're hit with a ball, you're out. If you catch the ball, the person who threw it is out. If you get hit in the head with a ball, the person who threw it is out. (Hmmm...that must be a modern day rule, as I can clearly remember all the boys in gym class purposely trying to clock us girls in the head....also, they switched to softer, smaller balls for this new-fangled Dodge Ball. All I remember are those hard red playground balls....)

So, to start the game, the balls are lined up along the center line, then both teams run to pick them up. (J is the gray blur on the far left side.)

When you have a ball, you throw it.

And at all times you try to dodge the balls being thrown AT you.

Because if you don't, you could get hit in the eye with a ball. So the kid who threw it was "out", but today J has a really icky looking eye.
Who said homeschoolers can't have the same experience as kids that are in school??? (SIGH!)
On the bright side, despite his injury, J said he'd still play Dodge Ball again if he got the chance, because it was a bunch of fun. As for me, well, I don't mind waiting for him to have another chance....

Oh, I love dodge ball. I so wish our local homeschooling gym will find enough people to start the class.
