three sisters garden, day 2

The next day, we were down in our pasture digging up some nice, rich organic soil to add to our garden. This is from an area that housed our sheep for several winters, so there's lots of rich, composted manure and hay there. The boys dug up a wheelbarrow full, then transported it up to our garden:




Above, the boys put piles of organic earth in the location our planting mounds will be in. Below, the garden when they were done with it that day:


We also read a story, "Onenha, The Corn" from Native American Gardening by Michael J. Caduta and Joseph Bruchac.
