fireworks

This is the first year that J's wanted to go watch the fireworks with us (last year I brought Zoo Boy to see them, previous to that we just avoided them except for what we could see from our window when our neighbors set off some amateur displays). The Map Man and I used to go every year before the kids came along, so we were excited to go again, and to share the experience with them.

It was a beautiful, tho chilly, evening, and the boys had a blast. The folks we went with had sparklers for their girls (both 8), and of course our guys wanted in on that action, so we got them these glow sticks instead, which served as an adequate replacement. (We told them they could have sparklers when they are 8 too -- hopefully they'll forget we said that by then!) Zoo Boy located some other kids with the same glow sticks and ran off to play with them, then we all snuggled under a blanket to watch the display. The town (a nearby town to ours) does a great job with their display, very professional. J fell asleep halfway through, but Zoo Boy made it to the end despite it being very much past his usual bedtime, and was so excited that it was another hour before he was ready to sleep. Great night!
