fall festival

We spent the afternoon at Buell's Orchard in Eastford, CT, where they were holding their annual Fall Festival. We rode a hay wagon out to the pumpkin patch to select the pumpkins we are going to turn into jack-o-lanterns. (Oh, wow, just like our Pumpkin Patch Adventure Circle, what a coincidence! Ok, so maybe not quite such a coincidence....) Here The Map Man and the boys wander the official pumpkin selection field.

Of course, they finally picked their pumpkins from the actual pumpkin patch. J does his best to hold onto his pumpkin while The Man helps Zoo Boy separate his pumpkin from the vine.

The boys also insisted on apple picking. This time, there were no Macouns in the allowed picking area, so we picked Cameos instead (which are equally as crisp, but much sweeter than the Macouns -- still yummy though, a great eating appple!) Here's J selecting a juicy one. This orchard is SO much nicer than the one we went to last week, I think we'll restrict our picking to this orchard from now on, despite the fact that it's a much farther ride to get there. A pretty ride, though!

Zoo Boy takes a break in the branches of an old apple tree in the main farmyard area. I've been having a problem with him lately wanting to squint his eyes and put on a goofy smile whenever he sees the camera, so unfortunately most of my photos of him today (including a rare family photo) were ruined. But I value these photos where he actually doesn't look like a goon.

We enjoyed some live music (that's The Man and the boys on the grass behind that car).

Surprisingly, there wasn't that much color in the trees yet at the orchard, but we saw plenty of pretty leaves on the way out and back.

It was a fun day! I took a million pictures of the apple trees (I find that I've been somewhat obsessed with them this past year), perhaps I'll share some at some point.
