summer (well, sort of...) swimming

Our season at our beloved sandy beach on our beautiful local lake, along with swim lessons, began this week. The kids joyfully greeted friends and jumped into the water fun immediately, despite the bone-chilling temperature of the lake, thanks to weeks of cold wet stuff falling from the sky, with nary a peek at the sun to help warm it.

The weather has been stubbornly refusing to cooperate with this whole "summer" thing. After 2 weeks of almost constant rain, this week decided to offer the promise of sun on occasional days, only to re neg and throw thunderstorms at us. They snuck in swim lessons on 2 of the 5 scheduled days, but it was a disappointing beach week overall.

J overcame being bummed out about not getting in all his lessons, opting for some boogie board fun.

Zoo Boy, taking on his summer persona of "The Fish Whisperer".

Seriously, he's out there petting fish.

I'm not kidding.

The kids are bound and determined to have a full summer's worth of fun, regardless of what the weather decides to do. The weathermen are promising that today is the end of the ridiculous weather, and that summer -- real summer, all hot and humid and disgustingly miserable as it can be -- is on the way.

Maybe I'll get into the lake myself this summer after all....
