a quick little catch-up

It started out innocently enough, almost 2 weeks ago, with a small, festive, 2 1/2 inch early snowfall, breaking snow total records for October:

The next day we rescued some feral kitties and brought them home to be our new batch of farm cats:

(From left to right, that's Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail and Peter.)

Along with Bromley (decidedly more mature and friendlier):

But then this happened the following day:

It started snowing around noon on Saturday Oct 29, we lost our power about 4pm, and the above is the view from our bedroom window on Sunday morning. Needless to say, the new October snowfall record was shattered. Over a foot of heavy, wet snow atop trees that still were covered in leaves meant that many of those trees snapped, bent in half, or toppled over entirely. Many landed on power lines, taking down wires and snapping power poles. There are still people in our town without power today, 11 days later. We were amongst the lucky that were only out of power for 10 days.

So what's a family to do?

Well, we moved in with our friends. And celebrated J's actual birthday:

Even more friends moved in the next day, so we held a sledding party:

Then carved some pumpkins:

Then threw a great big Halloween party (J is the ghost on the left, Zoo Boy is the vampire next to him):

And then things really got rolling. But those things deserve their own posts, so you'll just have to wait.

Heh heh heh....
